It’s Not About the Bunny

As Easter fast approaches and we prepare to celebrate with our families, we can easily become overwhelmed by the options available to us due to the commercialization of Easter. There are chocolate bunnies of all shapes and sizes, plastic eggs covered in glitter and other designs, toys galore, and baskets for hunters big and small. The real meaning of Easter is easily overshadowed. Put simply, it’s not about the bunny, it’s about the lamb.

The Bible has no mention of “Easter” or a fluffy-tailed bunny who delivers candy filled eggs to well-behaved children on Easter Sunday. Use this time to reflect on the “why” behind Easter. While you’re decorating and hiding eggs or partaking in a delicious meal, remember that this was the last week of Jesus’ life. Today, Good Friday, we remember Jesus’ trial, his sentencing, and brutal death by crucifixion. Jesus paid the ultimate price for us. Most importantly remember that we already know the glorious end to this story: The tomb was empty…HE LIVES!
